Acai Berry Hailed as a superfood from South America, acai berry has made its way as a power breakfast in super bowls, juice bars, pastries, and even ice cream.

As a superfood, acai berries are a great source of amino acids and calcium. But their real deal in nutrition comes in the form of anthocyanin (a kind of flavonoid), proanthocyanidins (a product of flavonoid), sterols (a plant compound that helps lower bad cholesterol), fatty acids (oleic, palmitic, and linoleic), and fiber.

Protects the Heart

Anthocyanins in acai berries have been found to reduce the risk of having a heart attack by 32 percent in young and middle-aged women according to a study.

Acai berries are also the heart’s ally in increasing the good cholesterol levels while decreasing the bad cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. High fiber intake is associated with lower risks of developing cardiovascular diseases.

Helps Prevent Cancer

Hail to anthocyanins - the body’s hero in lowering the risk of developing the Big-C! Anthocyanins act as antioxidants, activate detoxifying enzymes, prevent cancer cells from reproducing, activate cell death, and prevent cancer cell invasion.

A seven-day intake of anthocyanins has been found to show improvements akin to other therapies in patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer.

Boosts Cognitive Function

Thanks to the anthocyanins in acai berries, the brain is protected from inflammation and oxidation which affects memory and learning as a result of aging. The anthocyanins in acai berries do all the housekeeping to maintain the brain in tiptop shape.
