Senna Leaves (Cassia Senna)
The leaf of the senna plant is the active ingredient in nearly all the fancy slimming and detox teas in the market. Senna is a non-prescription, all-natural laxative that’ll make you move when you need to move.
Constipated? Ate too much at the buffet? Grossed out by the thought of induced vomiting? Add a pinch of senna leaves in your tea and you’ll be good to go in a couple hours.
For best results, let it steep in hot water for 5 minutes or longer before drinking.
We’ll be honest here. Senna, contrary to what other companies claim, is not for detoxing. It’s a super-laxative that is effective in cleaning your colon and purging after an eating binge. That’s all it does and it does it very well. But detoxification involves so much more than that. With that said, here are a few warnings…
- Senna is a very powerful laxative that is sometimes used for cleaning the bowel before diagnostic checkups such as colonoscopy. Use it no more than three times per week. Not recommended for long term use.
- If you have dysmenorreah, please refrain from taking senna tea or consult your doctor before use.
- Not recommended for individuals with stomach ulcers or hyperacidity
- Not recommended for pregnant women
